February Frolics
February has been called the month of love, famous for Valentines Day and the sentiment that comes with it. And at the beginning of the month, Groundhog Day provides a glimmer of hope for hibernators everywhere — that in six weeks, spring might come early.
But no matter if winter leaves earlier this year, or lasts a little while longer, don’t let mid-winter’s bite snuff out your traveling spirit — especially when February offers so many chances for both outdoor adventures and cozy indoor occasions.
Set your course for Old Mission Peninsula in Michigan, where local wineries invite you to spend the weekend “Romancing the Riesling” — sampling Riesling varietals and food pairings. Love and wine also go hand-in-hand this month along the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad in Ohio during That’s Amore! – A Taste of Romantic Italian Wines, a wine-tasting train excursion leaving from Independence. In Chicago, head to the popular Navy Pier, which will transform into a “big top” when it hosts the Windy City Circus at the end of the month.
Whether you’re going solo, with family or with someone special, we hope you have a blast during your February travels. As always, check long-weekends.com for more travel ideas in your destination area — you might even spark another adventure or two! Stay warm, and see you in March!
