Wiggle and Slide

Six Flags Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom
Spring/Summer 2008
When the kids in a family span a range of ages — and, of course, that can include an adult who loves to indulge his or her inner child — it can be a challenge keeping everyone entertained for an entire day. But a swirl of amusement ride thrills and water spills (on a slide, that is) offers the perfect antidote to that age-old problem.

Now, thanks to new attractions at the Six Flags Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom in Lake George, New York, everybody from wee ones on up can get their fill of fun. The park offers 135 rides, shows and attractions, including the oldie and oh-so-goodie classic roller coaster, The Comet. But this season, families toting toddlers can also step into Wiggles World, an area based on the uber-popular children’s entertainers, The Wiggles. Get the video recorder ready: From taking a spin on The Big Red Plane Ride and The Big Red Car, to cavorting with Wiggles pals Dorothy the Dinosaur and Captain Feathersword, tykes will want to replay their time there over and over.

At the waterpark, the word “wedgie” takes on a far more delightful meaning this year than most tweens and teens have ever encountered. The new Mega Wedgie waterslide sends kids swirling down a 100-foot-long tube before being dumped into an enormous bowl, after which they spin through a funnel before being deposited into a splash pool.

Families eager to extend their trip can book an overnight stay at the Great Escape Lodge. It’s right across the street, but the lodge includes its very own indoor waterpark for those who can’t stand to be too far away from the fun.
