There’s reason to celebrate at the world’s largest indoor aquarium this summer, as the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago welcomes home the Beluga whales, dolphins and sea otters that have been away since the start of the Oceanarium’s renovation. The 17-year-old marine mammal habitat was refurbished in order to provide a better quality of life for the animals, and come June, you can be a part of this magical homecoming experience.
Guests will immediately appreciate the innovative, state-of-the-art space and new interactive exhibits, which provide a fresh take on the aquarium experience. Watch as the Belugas and dolphins frolic in their new waters, happy to be back after an extended stay away from home. Other highlights of a Shedd visit include the Wild Reef exhibit, featuring two dozen sharks, stingrays and an interactive Apo village, built by people of Apo Island, and the Amazon Rising exhibit, which includes a walk-through display that illustrates the many stages of the rainforest as it changes with the rise and fall of water in different seasons.
The aspiring marine biologist in the family will love the Waters of the World exhibit, where guests can explore the ocean floor, wetlands, rivers and Great Lakes, all in one place. Octopus, moon jellies, sea stars and more will keep you company as you wander through this incredible display. For unique aquatic life, check out the Caribbean Reef area, an award-winning habitat that features parrotfish, eels and green sea turtles.
