Located just 30 miles southeast of downtown Chicago, Gary, Indiana, is known for far more than being the birthplace of the “King of Pop.” Although it is fashionable to stop and take photos of Michael Jackson’s childhood abode, most people come to Gary in search of fortune at its Vegas-style casinos. With sparkling gaming properties around almost every corner, Gary and the surrounding area is arguably the gaming capital of the Midwest.

Starting with Gary’s Majestic Star Casino & Hotel, visitors are in for a treat with more than 70 table games — with poker limits up to $50,000 — and 2,400 slot and video poker machines. In addition, there are three on-property eateries, and the Lakeshore Lounge offers live music three nights per week.

Less than 10 miles east of Gary, in Hammond, Indiana, the Horseshoe Casino is another winner with 350,000 square feet of gaming space, 3,000 slots and more than 100 table games. Horseshoe also offers visitors three entertainment venues and four dining outlets, ranging from a casual pub to a fancy steak house.

Just a few miles east of Gary, in Michigan City, Indiana, the Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa Blu is sure to please with 65,000 square feet of gaming space on one floor and a wide variety of slots and table games. Need a break from the action? If so, head over to Spa Blu, the venue’s new, 10,000-square-foot spa, salon and fitness center. Make sure to try the milk and honey wrap. You’ll be ready to hit the tables again in no time.
