Turning Stone Resort
Spring/Summer 2009
It’s a rare resort that offers golfers such a selection. Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York, features five excellent courses, which means something for everyone. The links here are diverse, including a par 3, a nine-hole track and three regulation courses — designed by such famous names as Rick Smith, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Tom Fazio.

Sandstone Hollow, the par 3 course, is perfect for fine-tuning your iron game. You’ll find a player-friendly course set on beautiful, rolling terrain at the wide-open Pleasant Knolls, just a short drive from the resort. From the championship tees, this nine-hole, par 36 course covers 3,393 yards.

The regulation courses represent the best work from the trio of designers. At 7,315 yards, the Fazio-designed Atunyote golf course provides another good reason for that monster driver you just bought. Kaluhyat golf course, Jones’ work, takes advantage of dramatic changes in elevation and several sparkling lakes, and provides wonderful views from many of the tees. Shenandoah golf course is the much-honored creation of Smith, marked by his signature style — symmetry, strategic challenge, respect for nature’s help in design and physical beauty.

Turning Stone Resort also boasts world-class lodging and first-rate gambling. After a day in the sun, sit back, relax and join in on a hand of poker, or simply enjoy the evening at one of nine tasty dining options, like Peach Blossom, where the specialty is authentic Asian cuisine.
