Casino Club at The Greenbrier
Spring/Summer 2011
Southern Style
The new 103,000-square-foot Casino Club at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is definitely more reminiscent of Monte Carlo than Las Vegas, which fans of the stylish venue say is a good thing.

The club opened at the storied resort with a flourish in July 2010, with actress and West Virginia native Jennifer Garner and her husband Ben Affleck on hand to christen the space. The century-old hotel, set in the rolling Allegheny Mountains, has long provided elegant lodging and a host of activities ranging from PGA golf to falconry. Decorated by the famed Dorothy Draper, the resort still features vivid color schemes, lively florals and sweeping pastoral vistas.

Now, the Greenbrier offers a range of new nightlife and entertainment options. As the club’s slogan proclaims, “It’s no longer sleepy time down south.”

Discreetly located below the hotel, the Casino Club is only open to hotel guests. You won’t see blue jeans or sweat suits, either. The look is country-club casual during the day, and in the evening, a jacket and tie are de rigueur. In a nod to “Gone with the Wind,” guests make a dramatic entrance via a long spiral staircase.

Other sophisticated touches include a nightly champagne toast, complete with good luck wishes that will come in handy at the 320 slot machines and 37 gaming tables.

For those who tire of gambling, the club offers nightly cabaret shows, an elegant cocktail lounge — perfect for that late night Cosmopolitan — and several chic dining spots. Shopping aficionados will find designers like Badgley Mischka and Roberto Coin in Greenbrier Avenue’s upscale shops.
