Sitting at a school desk can be a drag, but here’s the good news — kids can get a hands-on education at the Explorium of Lexington in Lexington, Kentucky, an institution dedicated to inspiring young minds. A popular children’s museum, the Explorium attracts about 85,000 people each year, and offers several interactive exhibits that teach a wide variety of subjects, including culture, geography, nutrition, the human brain, physics and much more.
For a crash course in health, head over to the Building Better Bodies exhibit to learn what foods are best for the body. Find out if the sun has done skin damage by peering into the Magic Mirror, then switch roles at the pretend clinic, where kids can become honorary doctors. For a lesson in the science of “bubbleology,” look no further than the Bubble Zone, where your child can peer out from the inside of a real bubble. This exhibit is great for learning about the art of shapes, while interactively creating them.
Experience far-away cultures in the Homes Around the World exhibit, where children will see a variety of home structures, and learn why certain cultures must live in a drastically different environment than others. Kids may even leave with the knowledge needed to construct their own igloo.
Kids can indulge their fascination with bugs and other earthy elements at the Natural Wonders exhibit, and then test their veterinary talents and grooming skills in the Hold Your Horses area.
Rounding out the curriculum is Passport to the World, an interactive map that reveals videos about various cultures when you click on a specific country.
