Make A Splash

Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari
Spring/Summer 2009
Make A Splash
New attractions make Santa Claus, Indiana, even jollier. In 2009, the world’s friendliest park, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, welcomes Pilgrims Plunge, a “shoot-the-chute” ride that will break a record by becoming the world’s tallest water ride, with a drop of 131 feet. The modern twist? A rapid ride up to the top on an open-air elevator. And the splash? It’s 90 feet wide. Also new for 2009 is the technologically savvy HoliWatch program, a wristband-style radio frequency identification device that will let you locate others in your party, send messages and access park info 21st century style.

These new features join a lineup that includes the park’s recently added Thanksgiving section — in addition to Christmas, Halloween and 4th of July — where fall feasts (think turkey and mashed potatoes) are served at Plymouth Rock Café.

For even more holiday fun, stay at the just-opened Santa’s Cottages, top-quality lakeside accommodations that are the perfect size for families, and visit the Santa Claus Museum, which narrates the town’s history and the significance of its famous namesake in a fun, nontraditional way.At Santa’s Candy Castle, another popular attraction, children can now communicate with Santa’s elves via the North Pole Network, a corral of computers beneath the castle dome. They can answer questions, make their Christmas wish list and — if they are on Santa’s “nice” list — they receive a certificate. The Castle also boasts 29 flavors of candy canes, so give in to your sweet tooth.
