Light Up Louisville

KaLightoscope Christmas
Fall/Winter 2010
Light Up Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, will be lit up like a — well — a Christmas tree, when KaLightoscope Christmas makes its debut at the legendary Galt House Hotel. From November 18 through January 3, 2011, visitors can enjoy a larger-than-life, walk-through Christmas luminary experience of 12 holiday-themed sections, including “Toyland,” “Christmas Tree Maze,” “The Lighted Forest” and “The Nativity,” among others. The luminaries, created by dozens of Chinese artisans, encompass more than six miles of colored and patterned fabrics and four miles of rope lighting trimming individual sculptures that range in size from 12 to 24 feet tall.

Also making its first appearance is “Colors of the Season,” an interactive dinner show that will transport audiences to Christmases Past as cast and student choirs share holiday memories through dialogue and song. Galt House chefs have prepared a gourmet three-course menu to accompany the musical journey. Lunch and dinner shows will be presented November 18 through December 24.

KaLightoscope Christmas also brings the world’s largest life-size, handcrafted gingerbread village created entirely from edible ingredients — including a half-ton of gingerbread, 450 pounds of flour, 2,000 eggs and 1,600-plus pounds of sugar — to the 1,290-room hotel. Walk along a gingerbread path, spicy-fragrant and decked out with lollipop Christmas trees, to Santa’s walk-thru peppermint stick “North Pole” workshop and enjoy holiday refreshments near the Gingerbread Snow Fairy Castle.

Rounding out the spectacle will be holiday events and activities, including Santa’s PartyPalooza, Breakfast with Santa and the Christmas Fairy and Santa’s Story Time and Christmas Carols. A Mistletoe Marketplace will showcase holiday keepsakes, including one-of-a-kind ornaments and holiday crafts created by Louisville artisans.
