There aren’t a lot of live-music radio shows recorded in the U.S. anymore but, happily for Kentuckians and visitors, Sunday mornings at Renfro Valley Entertainment Center are all about “The Gatherin’,” featuring the Valley’s family of top-notch music makers.
Of course, one weekly show does not an entertainment center make. Renfro Valley, Kentucky, is truly a weekend’s entertainment all on its own. Get things started on Friday nights with the 70-year-old (though fresh as the day it started) Renfro Valley Barn Dance, which features some knee-slapping comedy mixed in with a hearty dose of traditional country and bluegrass music. Then, it’s a double bill of shows on Saturdays. The late afternoon “Mountain Gospel Jubilee” refreshes the spirit, while the weekly 7 p.m. show, “Spring in the Valley,” is a full-on musical that will have the whole family smiling.
You won’t have to leave the music behind when you leave. The Country Music Store is packed with CDs a-plenty by the Renfro Valley regulars — and every other country star you could possibly imagine.
For the complete Renfro Valley experience, come early and dine on beyond-tasty biscuits and fantastic fried chicken at the take-some-and-pass-it-down Lodge Restaurant. You can even stay a night or two; Renfro Valley has a motel, cabins and an RV park ready and waiting for you to pull into town.
